When most people think about content creation, they focus only on attracting an audience. But attraction is just the beginning. The real journey moves deeper: from finding you → to evaluating you → to connecting with you.

This path is what marketers call the Audience Journey. Understanding it helps you know not only what kind of content to create, but also why you’re creating it. For Christian creators, this is crucial because our goal isn’t just numbers—it’s discipleship and transformation.

Let’s break down the three stages:


1. Awareness: They Find You

This is the introduction stage. Someone stumbles across your video, blog, reel, or podcast for the very first time. They may not know who you are, what you believe, or why your message matters.

Your goal here is to capture attention and spark curiosity.

Examples for Christian creators:

  • A 30-second sermon clip posted on Instagram or TikTok.
  • A motivational quote graphic drawn from Scripture.
  • A short YouTube intro video on your ministry theme (faith, healing, leadership).

Think of awareness like the parables of Jesus. They drew people in with familiar images—seeds, fields, coins—yet carried deeper truths. Awareness content makes people pause and say: “I want to know more.”


2. Consideration: They Evaluate You

Once you’ve gained attention, the next step is evaluation. People begin asking:

  • Is this person credible?
  • Do they speak with clarity?
  • Is their content valuable or just noise?

At this stage, consistency and depth matter most. If your content lacks substance, they’ll move on. But if it shows thought, value, and integrity, they’ll stick around to learn more.

Examples for Christian creators:

  • A podcast episode unpacking biblical principles in detail.
  • A blog post or devotional that goes deeper into a subject you hinted at in a social media clip.
  • A teaching series on YouTube covering faith, prayer, or practical Christian living.

📖 The Bereans in Acts 17:11 are a perfect example. They listened to Paul with interest, then evaluated his message against Scripture. The consideration stage is where trust begins to grow.


3. Engagement: They Connect With You

The final stage is relationship and participation. At this point, your audience is no longer just watching from a distance—they’re interacting, subscribing, commenting, and even sharing your content with others.

True engagement happens when people move from being passive viewers to active community members.

Examples for Christian creators:

  • A discipleship program or online Bible study group.
  • An email newsletter with devotionals, resources, or ministry updates.
  • Hosting a Q&A session or livestream where your audience can ask questions.

This stage is the foundation of discipleship. Just as Jesus didn’t stop at attracting crowds—He invited people to follow Him, walk with Him, and grow with Him—we must build structures that move people from curiosity to connection.


Why This Journey Matters for Ministry

If you only focus on awareness, you’ll always chase views but miss depth.
If you only focus on consideration, you may educate but never expand your reach.
If you only focus on engagement, you’ll struggle to attract new people into your community.

But when you steward all three stages—awareness, consideration, and engagement—your content journey mirrors the path of discipleship: attracting, convincing, and retaining.

Just as discipleship takes time, so does building an audience. Both require patience, consistency, and intentional care.

Content that transforms is not a one-time post—it’s a journey. As Christian creators, we are called to walk with our audience the same way Christ walks with us: meeting them where they are, guiding them deeper, and inviting them into lasting connection.
